O gloriosa Virgine
03:02
|
|||
O gloriosa virginum,
Sublimis inter sidera,
Qui te creavit parvulum
Lacténte nutris ùbere.
Quod Eva tristis àbstulit
Tu reddis almo gérmine
Intrent ut astra flébiles
Caeli recludis càrdines
Tu regis alti jànua,
Et aula lucis fùlgida
Vitam datam per Vìrginem
Gentes redémptae plàudite
Jesu, tibi sit gloria,
Qui natus es de Virgine,
Cum Patre et almo Spiritu
In sempitérna saecula. Amen.
1 O Queen of all the Virgin choir,
Enthroned above the starry sky;
Who with pure milk from thy own breast
Thy own Creator didst supply.
2 What man hath lost in hapless Eve,
Thy sacred womb to man restores;
Thou to the sorrowing here beneath
Hast open’d Heaven’s eternal doors.
3 Hail, O refulgent Hall of light!
Hail, Gate sublime of Heaven’s high King!
Through thee redeem’d to endless life,
Thy praise let all the nations sing.
4 O Jesu! born of Virgin bright,
Immortal glory be to Thee;
Praise to the Father infinite,
And Holy Ghost eternally. So be it.

Perdono mio Dio, mio Dio perdono
Perdono mio Dio, perdono e pieta
Pur troppo vi offesi confesso o signore
con sommo rossore la mia iniquità
Io sono quell'ingrato che voi redentore
scacciai dal mio core con tanta impieta

Where will my end be?—because the road is coming to an end.
It is approaching. The big day is coming.
Facing these trials, I am afraid of preachers of falsehood.
Oh, the road is narrow. You must be strong.

–“Stand up in the field, my curly rowan tree, stand in the field and do not shake.”
–“I spoiled myself for you! You had your way with me, my dearest, so marry me!”
–“Stay at home, my darling. Stay at home and do not long for me.”
–“Marry me, my beloved! Take your dearest as your bride!”

Soul of man
01:50
|
|||
To Canaan's land I'm on my way, where the soul of man never dies
My darkest night will turn to day, where the soul of man never dies
Dear friends there'll be no sad farewells, there'll be no tear-dimmed eyes
Where all is peace and joy and love, and the soul never dies
The rose is blooming there for me...
And I will spend eternity...
The love light beams across the foam...
It shines and lights the way to home...

Wide as the world is thy command, vast as eternity thy love
Firm as a rock thy truth must stand, when rolling years shall cease to move
Long hadst thou reigned e'er time began, or dust was fashion'd into Man
And long thy kingdom shall endure, when earth and time shall be no more

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper: et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Sè tù passi pense sponde
Pensa à salutà la croce
Qui sò cascati 'antichi
Cantendu à alta voce

Contr'à u francese feroce.
As you pass this spot, think to salute the cross
Where our ancestors fell, singing with loud voices
Defending liberty against the ferocious French.

All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?

Diu vi salvi Regina / e madre universale
Per cui favor si sale / al paradisu
Voi siete gioia è risu/ di tutti i scunsulati
Di tutti i tribulati /unica speme
Voi da i nemici nostir / a noi date vittoria
E poi l'eterna gloria / in paradisu
God save you Queen, Mother of the universe, whose blessings will lead us to paradise
You bring joy and laughter to the disconsolate, to the unfortunate their sole faith
Come grant us victory over our enemies and then eternal glory in paradise
Commonly sung at the end of concerts of traditional Corsican folk music, the original hymn was written in 1675. It was adopted as the national anthem of Corsica when the fledgling nation declared independence from Genoa in 1755. In 1767, the Genoese, despairing of ever being able to subjugate Corsica again, sold their claim to the Kingdom of France with the Treaty of Versailles. The French invaded Corsica that same year, and in May 1769, at the Battle of Ponte Novu, French control was consolidated over the island. In 1770 Corsica formally became a province of France.
